Following two unprecedented hot summers in Britain, homeowners are grappling with serious issues caused by ground subsidence. Henry Biggs, 49, from Stroud in Gloucestershire, points to serious damage in his home's walls, saying: "We have a wall with a thick crack that has appeared, allowing us to easily see into the next room. The crack is so large that we can fit our fingers into it, and pieces of plaster are coming off."

Increase in Insurance Claims

Biggs and his wife noticed cracks in the walls of their home in June 2025, just months after purchasing it. They filed a subsidence insurance claim with Admiral Insurance, which was approved in the spring. Interestingly, monitoring devices have recently been installed, while a year has passed since the claim was submitted. Now the couple is concerned about when repairs will begin.

This situation is not unique to Biggs; many homeowners across Britain are facing similar problems. Rising temperatures and unpredictable weather conditions have directly impacted the structural integrity of buildings, leading to serious issues in walls and infrastructure.

Worrying Outlook

As climate change and global warming exacerbate structural problems in homes, concerns are growing about an uncertain future for homeowners in Britain. They are not only facing dangerous cracks in their walls but also must deal with uncertainty regarding the timing and costs of repairs. This reality could not only negatively impact property values but also lead to public dissatisfaction.

While authorities and relevant bodies investigate this issue, homeowners continue to await effective and immediate solutions to save their homes from this serious damage.
