A warning global report has revealed that one in nine migratory birds is at risk of extinction. This recently published report indicates a 45% decline in the populations of migratory species, including migratory doves, Arctic terns, and Turtle Doves.
Extinctions That Cannot Be Ignored
The migratory bird scientifically known as the Slender-billed Curlew was officially declared extinct last year. This marks the first bird extinction in the Eurasian and African continents in recent centuries. Particularly, in the last 150 years, seven different species of migratory birds have been officially confirmed or suspected to be extinct.
This environmental crisis has arisen due to climate change, habitat loss, and excessive hunting of birds. Many of these species are no longer able to migrate and breed due to severe climate changes and habitat destruction.

The global report, alongside the announcement of a migratory bird treaty at the Kenya summit, emphasizes the necessity of international cooperation to save these species. Experts believe that without immediate and effective action, these birds will not only endanger themselves but also natural ecosystems.
